Course Overview
An ideal course for staff that have already received basic fire safety training but need a refresher or practical hands-on usage of a fire extinguisher. A useful add-on for companies that conduct their own in-house fire safety training.
Duration The course is split into both theory and practical elements and lasts approximately 60 - 75 minutes.
Who should attend? This course is designed for staff who may be required to use a fire extinguisher as part of their role or where there is a significant fire risk.
Objectives
At the end of the course, the delegate will be able to understand how fires develop, be able to conduct a simple dynamic risk assessment to identify the correct type of extinguisher to deal with a small fire, understand the limitations of each extinguisher and how to use the extinguisher effectively and safely.

The course covers the following:
· Fire and the principles of fire development;
· Assessment of personal risk;
· Classification of fires;
· Types of fire extinguishers;
· Explanation of why different types of extinguishers are necessary
- Methods of operation;
- Capabilities and limitations
· Practical use of fire extinguishers and blankets using a live fire demonstrator.
